Annual Skills School - May 29 - June 3rd., 2018

Late May - early June is the one time of year that Paddle Newfoundland and Labrador offers a Paddle Canada sanctioned Skills School to the general public and to PNL club members. All courses are taught by Paddle Canada certified instructors and the school is 100 % insured. Courses are open to all ages but applicants under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Participants will receive a Paddle Canada Certification after a successful completion of the course, recognized anywhere in Canada.

All our course offerings are taught to a higher level by exceeding Paddle Canada requirements.

2018 Courses - Online Registration Starts - March 1st.
Kayaking Kayak Basic Skills - 14 Students only

To introduce novices to paddling a kayak in calm sheltered water.
Rescue techniques at this level incorporate the use of a paddling partner. This is a great beginners course that will provide you with a solid foundation in Kayaking Safety and paddling techniques . Great for peope who are Kayaking now and have never taken a course and would like to improve their skills.


Canoeing Introduction Lake Tandem - 20 Students only

The successful candidate is considered a beginner tandem lake canoeist, capable of performing basic land and water-based rescues. Rescue techniques at this level teach self, as well as assisted rescues. The skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation necessary for confident and safe travel within the previously mentioned environments.


Canoeing Intermediate Lake Tandem - Minmum 4 Students

The successful candidate is considered an intermediate tandem lake canoeist, capable of performing a variety of land and water-based rescues and more advanced tandem strokes and manoeuvres. Manoeuvres within the Intermediate program require expanded levels of teamwork and greater precision.


Kayaking Kayaking Level 1 - Maximun 6 Students

Building on the information covered in Basic Skills, Level-1 is a two-day course that moves participants beyond flatwater kayaking and into the sport of sea kayaking.

The course is conducted in slightly rougher water than Basic Kayak, aiming to develop the paddler's comfort in class-1 waters. There is a strong focus on re-entry techniques
as well as the skills required to safely plan and execute a day trip with friends (for example, navigation& route planning, weather interpretation, proper clothing/gear.)
